About this training

Thermal waste treatment processes produce flue gas contaminated by particulates, heavy metals and acidic gases which requires treatment. This specialist e-learning course provides you with the opportunity to learn more about flue gas treatment techniques and technologies. The course focuses on five key areas:

  • The need for flue gas treatment
  • Abatement theory
  • De-nox techniques
  • Alternative technologies
  • Dry filtration and baghouse technology

What will I learn on the course?

  • Know at least three pollutants which require abatement technology to ensure compliance
  • Know the three principal capture techniques used within FGT systems and describe the differences

Course Contents

Scene 1: The Need for Flue Gas Treatment

  • Overview of the various thermal waste treatment options
  • Optimised combustion control cannot minimize pollution
  • The varied flue gas composition from each technique and need for abatement
  • Review of SOx, HCL, HF, particulates, heavy metals, dioxins and furans
  • Formation of NOx and types

Sene 2: Abatement Theory

  • Introduction to principle of capture and removal
  • Techniques inc. filtration, adsorption and absorption
  • Filtration, adsorption and absorption of particulates and various gases,

Scene 3: De-NOx Techniques

  • Introduction to primary control measures inc. low NOx burners, flue gas recirculation
  • Overview of secondary control measures inc SCR and SNCR

Scene 4: Alternative Techniques

  • Recap of demands on FGT systems
